location: Madeira is a beautiful green and mountainous Island with unspoilt bays. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean west of Africa and north of Tenerife (Canary Islands). Madeira is an autonomous region of Portugal and therefore part of the European Community. Funchal is the capital of Madeira and situated on the south coast of the island. The bay of Funchal is surrounded by a breathtaking mountain range.
 
description: The property extends to 2.080 m² in total and is situated in Monte – a ten minute drive from downtown Funchal. The house is built in the traditional Madeiran style and dates from the 1920s, however significant alternations have been made over the years to provide additional living space. Throughout its history the house has been completely restored by every owner. In 2000 all windows and Venetian blinds were replaced, the house is now fitted with modern double-glazed windows throughout. The living accommodation of the main house is arranged over two floors and measures approximately 280 m² in total. The ground-floor comprises of the dining-room (ca. 20 m2) with two window doors that lead on to the terrace and garden beyond, a drawing room (ca. 40 m²) with open fire place and original fire surround, and the spacious master bedroom (ca. 25 m²), another bedroom (ca. 10 m²) and the family bathroom (ca. 6 m²). There is a well equipped kitchen (ca. 15 m²) and laundry room (ca. 10 m²) as well as one additional small WC/shower room and a boiler-room which houses the central heating system. All rooms, including the fine mahogany staircase which leads to the upper floor level, can be accessed via the main hall. On the upper floor there is a large hall which connects the two double bedrooms (ca. 20 m² and 15 m²), one of which with en-suite bathroom (ca. 15 m²) and substantial sitting room (ca. 50 m²) with a modern fire-place, eight large windows to three sides and spectacular panoramic views over Funchal and the bay. All rooms have very high ceilings (ca. 3 to 4 m) and the parquet floors – except in two rooms, where there are fitted carpets – are made of mahogany from the island. The dining room has a fine ceramic tile floor. The house is fully furnished – partially with fine Portuguese and English antiques which complement the high and spacious rooms perfectly. Behind the principal house there is the old staff cottage. It consists of two separate double guest rooms each with en-suite bath-/shower room (ca. 40 m2 and 25 m2) and a storage room (ca. 7 m2). The 10 x 5 m2 swimming pool is approximately 1.80 m in depth and was built in 1986. It is about 40 m from the main house at an excellent view point. Due to its movable cover of polycarbonate and aluminium the swimming pool can also be used in bad weather conditions. The water is heated by solar panels. On the way to the swimming pool you pass a small fish pond with a sparkling well. A garage (ca. 15 m²) and additional parking facilities are available on the property. Neither the house nor the garden can be seen from the street or the neighbouring houses. Due to the magnificent vegetation in the garden there is total privacy on the entire property. The mature and well established garden is mainly kept naturally. There are many old trees and pretty bushes, including cedar, palm, fern, chestnut, avocado, plum, orange, lemon, camellia, bougainvillea, trumpet, hibiscus, oleander, azalea, etc., and the seasonal changing of the subtropical and tropical flowers means it is a magnificent sight all year round. There are two entrances to the property from two different streets. The property could therefore easily be divided to create two separate dwellings. The enclosed plans and pictures give a first impression. Based on local investment like this permanent residency can be obtained.
